Prague Řeporyje offers a world-unique geological phenomenon – the so-called stratotype, i.e. the place where the boundary layers of two levels of Silurian rocks are found. In addition to them, we will find, for example, fossilized traces of ancient sea creatures and play with a tea strainer at home... From Stodůlek, take bus no. 130 or 246 to Řeporyjí on the square and from there continue along Dalejská street.
Fires - the place where Silurian history was written
In Řeporyje, at the end of the street K Holému vrch, we go down the metal stairs in front of the quarry, and after the tunnel we go up the metal ladder to the border of the two stages of the Silurian: the Kopanin and Požar formations. In 1984, it was officially recognized internationally and carefully studied.
Petrified footprints in Mládkova street
From the square, take Mládková Street and between the houses on the left you will notice the leaning rocks formed by grey-green sandstones and siltstones of the highest stage of the Ordovician - the Kosovan Formation. On the surfaces, tube-like or wavy traces of climbing sea animals are clearly visible in places, sometimes we can also find the excrement of a starfish.
Truneck's mill
We will see the ruins of the water mill of the Trunečk family on the right of the forest path towards Mušlovka. The family owned it from the beginning of the 19th century until the end of World War II. In the years 1910–1911, the mill was converted to a cylindrical one, and from 1946 to an electric motor drive. In 1951, the mill was forced to close and gradually fell into disrepair.
The object of the former limestone factory
After the ford over the Dalejský potok behind the meadow, we pass the remains of a limestone mine founded in 1895 by the company Biskup, Kvis and Kotrba, which mined saturation limestone for sugar factories in Řeporyje. In the 1930s, 1,240 wagonloads of lime were mined annually. After 1953, the circular furnace was demolished. In 2000, the complex burned down, leaving only the perimeter walls and some abandoned quarry tunnels. Airsoft battles are taking place here today.
Legendary Mussels
We pass the remains of the limestone and follow the forest path to the overgrown quarry, the beaten path is to the left of the hiking trail. We will reach an old quarry that has been abandoned since 1918. In the rubble we can collect beautiful cephalopods, brachiopods and relatively abundant remains of trilobites.
Lobolite slope
Lobolitová straň is located behind Mušlovka on the left on the way to the valley. It got its name thanks to the finds of lilies, specifically their anchoring organs - lobolites. On the slope to the left, we can dig up some crumbling "sand" in a bag (it's molten limestone of a yellow, sandy color) and try to work as a paleontologist at home. A stream of water and a fine tea strainer will suffice. We will surely find the remains of lilies and brachiopods in it.
